UPDATED: The 7 Sunderland summer transfer rumours and the likelihood of each deal materialising

Sunderland are making good progress with their business so far this summer with Tony Mowbray’s side already having made several additions to their squad.

Sunderland finished 6th in the Championship last season and despite falling short in the play-offs, the future looks bright on Wearside with the club heading in the right direction.

So far this summer we’ve seen the likes of Jobe Bellingham, Nectarios Triantis, Jenson Seelt and Luis Hemir join the club with a few more linked.

Here we look at all the Sunderland transfer rumours and discuss the likelihood of each deal materialise…

Tom Cannon

The 20-year-old Everton striker was linked with a move to Sunderland earlier this week with the former Preston North End loanee said to be subject to interest from several English clubs.

How likely is this one?

Well, recent reports pretty much squash Sunderland’s interest stating a deal is out of Sunderland’s pay structure ruling them out of any attempt to sign him this summer.

Matija Frigan

The young Croatian striker is said to have been on Sunderland’s radar for sometime now.

How likely is this one?

The latest update from Croatia states Sunderland have had a bid rejected with Rijeka not willing to sell any of their key men below their valuation. It remains to be seen whether Sunderland go back in again, but Frigan is a player who fits the bill as a likely Sunderland target.

Nazariy Rusyn

Rusyn, 24, is a versatile attacker who is currently playing in Ukraine. Interest from Sunderland appears new, but it is very much active.

How likely is this one?

Reports coming out of Ukraine (via Roker Report) simply state the Black Cats’ interest. There is no bid that is known as of yet, but it is one to keep an eye on with Sunderland seemingly targeting plenty of attackers at the moment.

Nathan Bishop

The 23-year-old Manchester United goalkeeper is reportedly a top target for Sunderland should Alex Bass depart this summer.

How likely is this one?

This one only stands a chance should Bass leave, but give Bishop’s circumstances at Manchester United it seems a realistic deal to make.

Danny Batth

Batth has been linked with a move to Blackburn Rovers throughout this summer with his Sunderland future remaining in doubt.

How likely is this one?

The experienced defender has reportedly been told his contract at Sunderland won’t be renewed past next summer and Rovers have taken the initiative to offer the former Cardiff City man a two-year deal.

This one appears very possible with the centre-back potentially seeking career security this summer.

Jack Clarke

The 22-year-old winger was one of Sunderland’s best performers last season and his displays have attracted Premier League interest.

How likely is this one?

Burnley have made several bids for Clarke, all of which well below Sunderland’s valuation.

The former Spurs man appears very settled at Sunderland and comments from his agent suggest he is in no way wanting to force a move this summer. As things stand, it doesn’t appear as if this one will materialise this year.

Alex Bass

Bass has been linked with several League Two clubs this summer, most recently AFC Wimbledon.

How likely is this one?

It has become quite clear since joining that Bass isn’t able to really push Anthony Patterson for a starting spot and a move away looks likely with the keeper seeking consistent game time.
