Burton Albion are among the sides showing interest in Wolves starlet Dexter Lembikisa, as per the Express and Star.
Wolves youngster Lembikisa has again found much of his game time for the club’s U21s, but he has tasted senior action this season. He’s been tested against EFL opposition too, starting against Shrewsbury Town, Stockport County and Port Vale in the EFL Trophy.
In the summer though, a loan move is a possibility, and he’s not short of Football League suitors.
The Express and Star reports that Lembikisa has been monitored by League One side Burton Albion for the past year. The Brewers could firm up their long-term interest with a summer swoop, but several other clubs ‘across the pyramid’ are also showing an interest in the defender.
Lembikisa, 19, can play as a full-back on either the left or right-hand side but has been deployed in defensive midfield before too. He’s also earned one cap for the Jamaican national team.
The next step?
For many young players, after becoming regulars at youth level the next step is to be tested on an EFL loan. Lembikisa looks as though that step could come this summer, and Burton Albion could be in need of him.
He mainly operates at left-back and the Brewers will need another option there for next season. Dino Maamria currently has Zak Ashworth on the left-hand side and he’s only on loan from West Brom, so the starting spot will be up for grabs in the summer.
Lembikisa could be the man to take that role ahead of next season, but it remains to be seen whether or not the Brewers face competition for his signature.
