Do Birmingham City have an option to buy Brighton loan man Reda Khadra?

Reda Khadra scored his second goal for Birmingham City on Saturday in the 2-0 win over Rotherham United.

The man on loan from Brighton has now scored twice in five Championship appearances for Blues, with injury having hampered his start to life at St Andrew’s. He joined in January after a frustrating loan spell with Sheffield United and having featured in the last two for his new side, Khadra looks to be finding fitness.

And manager John Eustace will be glad to have Khadra back, with Birmingham City still struggling near the foot of the table. But what could next season have in store for ex-Dortmund man Khadra?

Do Birmingham City have an option to buy Khadra?

Khadra was initially out of contract this summer, but he signed a one-year extension with Brighton before heading out on loan to Birmingham City, so he’s now out of contract in 2024.

Unfortunately for Blues though, there’s nothing online to suggest that they have an option or an obligation to buy Khadra from Brighton when his loan deal expires at the end of this season.

Eustace’s side though are making a habit of buying loan players with Emmanuel Longelo having made his stay from West Ham permanent in January, and with Tahith Chong having joined permanently from Manchester United ahead of this season as well.

Blues are slowly building a very youthful side and Khadra has slotted in well. He doesn’t seem to be any closer to the Brighton first-team and so another loan move next summer seems likely, and a return to Birmingham City could easily be on the cards.
