West Ham linked with shock swoop for Norwich City midfielder – European teams also keen

West Ham, Atletico Madrid, and Red Bull Leipzig are all keen on Norwich City midfielder Gabriel Sara, according to reports.

Sara, 21, only joined Norwich City last summer. He made a reported £11.5million move to Carrow Road from Sao Paulo and he’s since shone in the Championship, having featured 29 times in the league so far whilst scoring five and assisting four more.

Now though, an emerging report in the Sunday Mirror (12.03.23, pg. 71 via West Ham Zone) claims that West Ham have scouted Sara in recent weeks, and that the Hammers seem the Brazilian as a potential replacement for Declan Rice who looks set to attract transfer interest this summer.

The same report also reveals that European duo Atletico Madrid and Red Bull Leipzig are also keen on Sara.

What stadium is this?

Going nowhere?

Sara is under contract at Norwich City until 2026. He’s made an impressive start to life in English football and he seems to be getting better under new boss David Wagner, with Sara having scored three in his last five outings.

The Canaries currently sit in 7th place of the table ahead of their Championship clash v Sunderland this afternoon, where Wagner’s side will look to earn a fourth-straight win in the league.

Missing out on promotion this season could make it more difficult for Norwich to keep hold of Sara ahead of next season, and other names like Max Aarons who will no doubt have suitors in the summer. But Norwich have the upper hand given Sara’s contract situation and so the Canaries will be under no pressure to sell.

And given how much they paid for him last summer, it’ll surely take a big offer to tempt Norwich into selling Sara so soon.

Norwich City v Sunderland kicks off at 12:30pm this afternoon, with the game live on Sky Sports.
