Wagner shares Josh Sargent update ahead of Norwich City v Sunderland

Norwich City host Sunderland in the Championship on Sunday.

Norwich City host Sunderland in what should be an exciting Championship clash. The Canaries go into this one on the back of a three-game winning streak, with David Wagner’s side in 6th place of the table compared to Tony Mowbray’s Sunderland who sit in 11th, having lost their last three ahead of this one.

The momentum is definitely with Norwich who could move as high as 4th with a win tomorrow. And their chances of a win will be bolstered by the possible return of top-scorer Josh Sargent who’s missed the last three games with an ankle injury.

Speaking to the club ahead of this weekend, Wagner said of the American:

“He is fully in contention, he’s trained for the last couple of sessions with the team.”

Sargent, 23, has scored 11 goals in 30 Championship appearances so far this season, making him the Canaries’ leading scorer in the league this season.

Who is this?

A timely boost…

Norwich City managed to cope without Sargent’s goals over the past three games. But his return will certainly be a massive boost for Wagner and for Sargent’s teammates, with the American having enjoyed a strong season in the Championship.

He endured a difficult first season with the club but he’s shown a lot of promise this season, and playing in a more positive and in form Norwich City side managed by Wagner should see Sargent prevail even more.

But the German won’t rush Sargent back in action, so expect to see Sargent starting on the bench on Sunday.

Norwich City v Sunderland kicks off at 12pm on Sunday and will be shown live on Sky Sports.
