‘In serious danger’ – Birmingham City v Rotherham United prediction: The72

Birmingham City host Rotherham United in the Championship this weekend.

Birmingham City come into this weekend’s clash with Rotherham United looking to arrest their worrying slide towards the relegation zone. A draw against Wigan Athletic last time ended their losing streak at four games, but a return to winning ways is much-needed.

John Eustace’s side sit in 19th place as it stands, seven points clear of Blackpool in 22nd.

As for Rotherham United, some impressive results of late have seen them put some more distance between themselves and the drop. Matt Taylor’s side have picked up seven points from the last nine up for grabs, defeating QPR and Sunderland in the process.

The Millers are still only one point ahead of the Blues in 18th though, and they’ll see this as a good chance to go four unbeaten.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“Last weekend’s draw for Birmingham City at least brought an end to their losing streak but they’ve got to start winning games if they’re to avoid being dragged right into the thick of it. A seven-point gap is still a fairly healthy one, but an upturn in form for one or two of the strugglers could put the Blues in serious danger.

“Against a Rotherham United side who have been much improved, I think their wait for a returning to winning ways drags on.

“The Millers have put in some good displays in recent weeks and given the hosts’ struggles in front of goal, they could be pipped to a narrow victory here.”

Who is this?

Luke Phelps

“For whatever reason, Birmingham City always seem to have key players injured, and they always seem to be in or around 19th place of the Championship table.

“But I think the outlook for them is much brighter under Eustace who’s ushering in a lot of talented young players. Still, they’re in a pretty perilous position in the Championship table and Rotherham are looking confident, despite being in the same boat.

“I don’t expect many goals at all in this one, and in truth, I’m leaning towards a Rotherham win. But I think Blues will have enough to take a point.”

Score prediction: Birmingham City 1-1 Rotherham United
