Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Norwich City are all keeping an eye on Barnsley star Jordan Williams, as per Football League World.
Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Norwich City all maintain hope of making the rise to the Premier League this season.
The Blades have a strong grip on 2nd place but Middlesbrough are keeping the pace with them while Norwich battle for the play-off spots. Now though, it seems the promotion-hunting trio could be set to do battle in the transfer market too.
A report from Football League World has claimed that all three sides are keen on Barnsley’s right-sided star Jordan Williams.
Operating as a full-back or wing-back, Williams has been a star performer in League One this season. He’s managed an impressive five goals and five assists for Michael Duff’s Tykes in 30 League One games, making him one of the EFL’s most productive wing-backs of the season.
It remains to be seen whether the interest develops into anything serious, but it’s clear to see why he’d drawn attention.
Ready for a step up?
If Barnsley aren’t able to make a return to the Championship this season, you have to think someone could try to prize star performer Williams away from the club. Top sides will be attractive prospects for the former Huddersfield Town youngster, with Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Norwich City certainly fitting into that category.
If any of those three sides are successful in their promotion bids though, it would be interesting to see if Williams remained on the radar.
He’s shown his quality this season and has a good amount of Championship experience to his name. The time may have come for him to be tested at a higher level or at least to earn a move to the top of the second-tier, but it remains to be seen just how the situation pans out.
