Transfer Tracker: The latest on Freddie Woodman amid Rangers, Leeds United, and Leicester City links

Preston North End goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has become the subject of transfer interest.

Last week, reports linked all of Rangers, Leeds United and Leicester City with a move for the former Newcastle United man. Woodman joined Preston on a permanent deal last summer and he’s since kept 15 clean sheets in 35 league appearances for the Lilywhites, who sit in 12th place of the Championship table.

Woodman signed a three-year deal last summer, after spending eight years with the Newcastle first-team but making only four Premier League appearances for the Magpies.

The latest on Woodman…

Soon after the links emerged, Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe spoke out on the rumours, saying:

“Good, they can give us £20m for him if they want! I don’t know what he’s worth, but we know he’s a top, top ‘keeper. If he continues to get those clean sheets, then that’s what will happen. There will be talks of clubs and interest in him. Especially those types of clubs. We knew when we were signing Fred that he was a good goalkeeper and he just needs to continue that good form.”

And Woodman has since spoken out on his summer move to Deepdale and how he’s finding life at the club. He told Lancashire Evening Post:

“I’ve made some really good friends and I come into work every day and I love it. I love being part of the team and being part of the club. I couldn’t have asked for it to go better in terms of that. I’m really enjoying it and hoping to keep improving in the team.”

What stadium is this?

For now then, it seems like both Lowe and Woodman are uninterested in the rumours. Preston remain in a good position in the Championship table and they could yet achieve a top-six finish, so focus will be on that for now.

And for Woodman, after several loan spells whilst at Newcastle he’ll surely be enjoying the fact that he’s playing regularly, and for a permanent club too. He’s flourishing in the Championship this season but if he keeps on doing so, then this transfer interest won’t go away – Preston could do with securing his long-term future.

Preston return to action v Cardiff City this weekend.
