Rotherham United announce new defender signing

Rotherham United have announced the signing of defender Tyler Blackett on a deal until the end of the season.

Rotherham are currently 18th in the table with a 3-1 victory against QPR at the weekend moving them eight points clear of the relegation zone, with 11 games to play.

The Millers have picked up seven points from a possible nine recently and have kickstarted their season again ahead of a busy and hectic run until the end of the season, putting themselves in complete command of their own destiny.

Manager Matt Taylor has now added extra strength at the back with the club confirming the signing of the 28-year-old former Manchester United and Reading defender Blackett on a deal until the end of the season, after he left Cincinnati FC in the MLS in January following an 18-month stay.

Defensive cover…

With Rotherham’s recent results putting them in a comfortable position in the league, Taylor has taken the opportunity to solidify their position by bringing in the experienced Championship defender, who’s appeared 137 times previously in England’s second-tier.

The Millers are currently battling against multiple injury casualties ahead of their weekend clash against Birmingham City, with defender Lee Peltier missing the previous win against QPR and without a recognised centre-back named amongst the substitutes.

Blackett will be available to feature against Birmingham on the weekend in a massive clash in both sides’ seasons, with the Blues entering the weekend in 19th place and just a point below the Millers, with only one point coming in their previous five games.

Rotherham and Blackett travel to face Birmingham on Saturday, with kick-off at 3pm.
