Blackburn Rovers in line for summer windfall as Romano reveals ex-player is expected to leave current club

Former Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper David Raya looks set to leave Brentford this summer.

Raya, 27, left Blackburn Rovers for Brentford in 2019. He’s since helped Brentford earn promotion to the Premier League whilst establishing himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the division, and it looks like he could seal an exciting next move in the summer.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Twitter this morning that Raya is expected to leave Brentford this summer after rejecting two contract offers from the club, and that several clubs are tracking the Spaniard who is out of contract in 2024. And a previous report from Lancashire Telegraph revealed that Blackburn Rovers are ‘entitled to a sell-on clause’ should Brentford sell Raya.

Previous reports have priced Raya around the £10million mark, but it’s not known how much of a sell-on percentage Blackburn Rovers are entitled to.

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side currently sit in 4th place of the Championship table having won their last five in all compositions and going unbeaten in their last 11.

A timely windfall…

Blackburn Rovers like many teams in the Football League, aren’t likely to be rolling in money, and so any kind of windfall is a welcome one. And Rovers will be hoping that more and more teams join the race for Raya so that they can get a bigger windfall from his likely summer sale.

At the same time though, Rovers will be hoping that Raya simply moves on and doesn’t enter into the next season in the final year of his contract, as Blackburn could be left with nothing.

A big Raya sale could go towards funding a few Rovers transfers, with Tomasson potentially readying his side for a Premier League campaign in the summer.
