West Brom boss Carlos Corberan could welcome Brandon Thomas-Asante, Tom Rogic, and Jake Livermore back from injury against Wigan Athletic tomorrow, or v Huddersfield Town this weekend.
The Baggies have struggled with injury issues in recent weeks which has seen them slip to 11th in the table following just one win in their previous five games – falling seven points behind the play-off places. Their previous outing saw Corberan’s side lose 2-0 to Hull City on Friday night, but they’ll be desperate to put that right against 23rd place Wigan on Tuesday, with the fixture being the Baggies game in hand on those teams above them.
West Brom have been left seriously light in the attacking department with Matt Phillips, Karlan Grant, Grady Diangana, and Brandon Thomas-Asante all missing the defeat on Humberside. However, Birmingham World has reported that whilst the former three are all ruled out for the upcoming weeks, and potentially months in Phillips and Diangana’s case – Thomas-Asante could be set for a return soon.
The article claims that Thomas-Asante is pushing to be back, although a weekend return seems likelier, with Jake Livermore and Tom Rogic both having an outside chance of featuring against Wigan. Alex Palmer, Kyle Bartley and Kean Bryan all remain out.
Set to return…
It’s a big boost for West Brom not only to hear those three names mentioned in the same breath as Tuesday’s game, but also for the weekend’s game against Huddersfield Town and beyond.
West Brom are in a tricky position in the league and failure to win against Wigan will leave them seriously on the back foot against the other teams closer or in the play-offs, but knowing that they’re set to welcome back experienced heads soon will be a boost.
Thomas-Asante’s impending return will give the Baggies faithful the biggest boost with their finally looking a glimmer in their attacking problems, whilst Livermore hasn’t featured since December, and Rogic since January, the return of experienced heads to the side will be important.
West Brom welcome Wigan to The Hawthorns on Tuesday night, with kick-off at 8pm and live on Sky Sports.
