Charlton Athletic boss Dean Holden is set to be the subject of an approach from League One rivals Oxford United, the Daily Mail has claimed.
Oxford United have been on the hunt for a new boss after parting ways with long-serving boss Karl Robinson last week.
The U’s have been regular play-odd contenders under the former MK Dons boss but the 2022/23 campaign has been a dismal one at the Kassam Stadium, leaving them languishing in 17th place and just four points clear of the relegation zone.
A new boss is yet to arrive in Oxfordshire but now, it seems a swoop on League One rivals Charlton Athletic is on the cards.
The Daily Mail report that Oxford are set to make an approach for Holden amid ongoing uncertainty over his contract situation. Holden is only on a deal until the end of the season and while there has been a desire to extend his stay, the Addicks’ ongoing ownership situation is making it tough.
What now?
It remains to be seen whether or not Oxford United do indeed make a move for Holden, but interest from elsewhere could only cast further doubt over his future at The Valley amid the uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership.
The manager has been a popular figure in South London amid the frankly disorganised hierarchy and the disenchanted relationship between the club and supporters. He’s been a unifying figure while also helping guide them away from a relegation scrap.
Holden is a highly regarded coach and losing him would be a big blow for Charlton Athletic, especially if it was to a league rival.
