Charlton Athletic face Plymouth Argyle in League One this afternoon.
Charlton Athletic make the long journey to Devon hoping for a first win in three against title chasers Plymouth Argyle.
The Addicks managed to hold Peterborough United to a 0-0 draw in midweek following back-to-back League One defeats. Improvements have been there under Dean Holden and they’ve risen to 13th place in the table, but the South Londoners will know they’re in for a tough test against the Pilgrims here.
Steven Schumacher’s side sit 2nd in the table but will be looking to avoid a third straight game without a win as they look to earn automatic promotion to the Championship this season.
Charlton Athletic team news
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s clash, Holden revealed that key midfielder Scott Fraser and loaned in full-back Steven Sessegnon are both doubts after missing out on Thursday’s training session. Both will be assessed ahead of the tie.
Todd Kane is still recovering from a hamstring injury and will remain out of the group for a couple more weeks.
There was good news on Mandela Egbo though, with the full-back making a return from injury in an outing for the club’s U21s side on Friday. Hopefully, he can get through scot-free and come into contention under Holden for the first time after several months out.
Predicted XI
Maynard-Brewer (GK)
Ness
Hector
Inniss
Clare
Dobson
Payne
Penney
Rak-Sakyi
Blackett-Taylor
Leaburn
With doubts surrounding Fraser and Sessegnon, it seems sensible to lean on the side of caution and drop them out of the starting XI for this one. It could prompt a change in formation, bringing another body into the frontline rather than a direct replacement for Fraser in midfield.
Macauley Bonne’s continued struggle for goals could see Miles Leaburn recalled into the starting XI, while Corey Blackett-Taylor will be hopeful of coming into the side too.
The tie kicks off at 15:00 this afternoon.
