Preston North End goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has been linked with a move away from Deepdale.
Preston only signed Woodman from Newcastle United last summer. But already, reports are linking the 25-year-old with a move away from the club, with Premier League duo Leeds United and Leicester City said to be keen, as well as Rangers.
But speaking to Lancashire Evening Post on the rumours, Preston boss Ryan Lowe said:
“Good, they can give us £20m for him [Woodman] if they want. I don’t know what he’s worth but we know he’s a top, top ‘keeper. If he continues to get those clean sheets then that’s what will happen, there will be talks of clubs and interest in him. Especially those types of clubs.”
Woodman has featured in all 34 of Preston North End’s Championship games so far this season, keeping 14 clean sheets in the process – he’s currently 2nd in the Championship’s clean sheet charts. And Preston boast one of the better defensive records in the league this season too, having conceded 38 times so far.
What next for Lowe and Woodman?
Woodman joined on a three-year deal last summer. It’s not the longest contract in the world and Lowe may be fearing that, at some point next season, he might have to cash in on his star goalkeeper as to avoid potentially losing him on a free transfer in 2025.
That’s still a while off yet though and for Preston, right now the aim is finishing as close to the top-six as possible. Woodman has been a key player for them so far this season and he’ll need to be in top form in the business end of this season to ensure that Preston have a chance of finishing in the play-offs.
Up next for the Lilywhites is a trip to Watford this weekend.
