West Brom in talks to sign 28-year-old on permanent deal

West Brom are ‘in talks’ to sign Fulham’s Nathaniel Chalobah, reports The Athletic.

Chalobah, 28, looks set to seal a permanent exit from Fulham before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline, with a move to The Hawthorns looking increasingly likely.

Carlos Corberan’s side have been quite heavily linked with a central midfield signing over the past couple of days with Chalobah and Nottingham Forest’s Lewis O’Brien mentioned – the latter is now being linked with a move to Sheffield United.

But it seems like Chalobah is closing in on a permanent move to West Brom with Fulham looking set to bring in Torino midfielder Sasa Lukic, allowing Chalobah to move on. The Athletic write that ‘initial discussions were held around a possible loan with an option to buy’ but that Chalobah is now nearing a permanent switch to West Brom.

Chalobah began his career with Chelsea. But he spent the bulk of his time at the cub out on loan, playing for a number of teams including Watford, Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough, Burnley, and Reading. He sealed a permanent move to Watford in 2017 and then a move to Fulham in 2021.

Corberan’s midfield fix…

Corberan spoke earlier this week about bringing in a new central midfielder, and he looks set to get his man before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

There’s still a lot to do for the deal to go through and after missing out on the likes of Josh Onomah because of delayed paperwork last summer, West Brom will surely be eager to avoid making the same mistake again.

But Chalobah will bring a degree of physicality and also technicality to the Baggies central ranks, providing cover for the likes of Jayson Molumby and Okay Yokuslu going into the second half of the season.

It seems like a very strong signing for West Brom who go up against Coventry City on Friday night.
