Blackburn Rovers enter race for 31-year-old Premier League centre-back

Blackburn Rovers are the latest side to have been linked with a move for Nottingham Forest centre-back Steve Cook, with The Daily Telegraph’s Mike McGrath reporting their interest.

Blackburn Rovers have endured a quiet yet frustrating transfer window to date.

Plenty of names have been linked with the club but with tonight’s 11pm deadline moving closer and closer, winger Sorba Thomas remains the only addition after his arrival from fellow Championship side Huddersfield Town on loan.

Now though, as per reporter McGrath, Rovers are the latest to enter the race for sought-after centre-back Steve Cook.

The experienced defender has been out of favour with Nottingham Forest in recent weeks, remaining an unused substitute for the last six Premier League. As a result, he’s drawn interest from the likes of Birmingham City, Luton Town and Stoke City.

A late move could be on the cards for the 31-year-old, with Blackburn Rovers now said to be in the mix.

A solid addition?

After drawing criticism towards the end of his time with Bournemouth, Cook proved he’s still a strong defender at a good level in helping Nottingham Forest win promotion to the Premier League last season.

But amid his drop out of Steve Cooper’s side, a new move could be best for him before the window slams shut.

He’d bring plenty of experience and top-flight pedigree to whoever he joins and with many clubs in the market for defensive additions, it seems feasible that Cook heads for pastures new today. It remains to be seen just who he joins though, with Blackburn Rovers now alongside Birmingham City, Luton Town and Stoke City in the pursuit.
