millwall currently have a few players injured

‘There for the taking’ – Millwall v Sheffield United prediction: The72

Millwall host Sheffield United in the FA Cup this weekend.

The Lions sit 6th in the Championship following a run of four games unbeaten. Gary Rowett’s side have put themselves right back in the mix with their recent form and they’ll be hoping to solidify that position above all else.

Sheffield United rescued a late point against QPR last time out. Paul Heckingbottom’s side are 2nd in the table and nine points clear of 3rd. The Blades look like an incredibly strong outfit this season and promotion is beckoning, but how they will approach this cup game remains to be seen.

Ahead of the clash, a handful of The72’s writers have given their predictions…

Thomas Kelly-Hansford

Millwall have been quite inconsistent this year, but they grind out results and that trait is always crucial in these tight scenarios. Rowett will likely be taking this game very seriously with the intention of maintaining the momentum they’ve built over the past few weeks.

“I can see Heckingbottom opting for a heavily rotated starting XI to give fringe players a chance to stay sharp should they be called upon this season. This will likely create openings for the hosts and the game will be there for the taking.

“I don’t see either team running away with this one, and given the fact I expect Sheffield United’s squad to be rusty, I’m going to edge this one to the hosts.”

Where did Jordan Rhodes start his professional career?

“This game is a really good chance for some of Sheffield United’s recently-returned players to gain some match fitness, so I think we’ll see a lot of changes here.

“As for Millwall, they have some exciting youngsters breaking through and so I think they’ll be given a chance to impress in this one, and how that will impact upon the final result of the game remains to be seen.

“For me though, Sheffield United have enough strength in depth to get through this one and I think they’ll just edge this one.”
