Burnley, Vincent Kompany to consider immediate future of loaned out Burnley man ahead of January

Vincent Kompany to consider immediate future of loaned out Burnley man ahead of January

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has said Wout Weghorst’s loan with Besiktas will be among the things considered during the World Cup break.

Burnley’s move to sign Weghorst in January looked to be an impressive bit of business.

They recruited him after losing Chris Wood to Newcastle United but the Dutchman didn’t have the impact those at Turf Moor hoped he’d have. He managed only two goals and three assists in 20 games as the Clarets were relegated to the Championship.

Upon their drop to the second-tier, Weghorst was then loaned to Turkish side Besiktas for the season. He’s made a decent start to life with the club too, managing six goals and four assists so far this season.

Besiktas hold the option to make the move permanent at the end of the season but Burnley also have it in their power to recall Weghorst this winter.

Now, Kompany has told Lancs Live the towering striker’s situation is among the things that will be considered during the break.

Here’s what he had to say:

“Honestly, I have planned on thinking about all these things in the next 10 days.

“Right now, it is three or four days of no football and after that my mind is racing so we will have time to think about that.”

Lancs Live’s report did add that while his situation will be considered, it remains unlikely he will be recalled.

England are in a group with USA for this upcoming World Cup. At which other WC were England grouped with USA?

Better off with Besiktas?

Weghorst is faring well over in Turkey and after a difficult time with Burnley over the second half of last season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he preferred to stay with Besiktas – especially given that he’s spent the vast majority of his career playing top-flight football.

The Clarets have had to deal with a striker shortage though, and if their options are still limited in the winter, a recall may not be completely off the cards.

The January window will bring Burnley a new chance to add another striker to their ranks though. With that in mind, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they move to recruit another striker before recalling Weghorst from his Turkish loan.
