Blackburn Rovers director reveals when he wants Ben Brereton Diaz’s situation resolved by

Blackburn Rovers director of football Gregg Broughton has said he hopes to have ‘absolute clarity’ on Ben Brereton Diaz’s situation by January.

Blackburn Rovers star Brereton Diaz has been at the centre of transfer speculation for the best part of a year now.

His stunning form and rise to stardom as a Chile international saw him on the radar of many clubs over the 2021/22 campaign. However, he stayed beyond the summer and now, attention needs to turn to resolving his future.

Brereton Diaz is out of contract next summer, so January may be the last chance for Rovers to cash in on him.

Now, as quoted by Lancs Live, the club’s director of football Broughton has made it clear that he hopes to have the forward’s situation clarified by the time the next transfer window rolls around.

Speaking on when he hopes to have ‘absolute clarity’ on the situation, he said

“We have to have ongoing negotiations with Ben and his representatives about what they see their future going, does he want to be playing in the Premier League, does he want to explore some of the many options I’m sure he’d have to play in other places in Europe as well.

“Those conversations are ongoing.

“We wanted Ben to come through this international window before we started those again and those will go on over the next few weeks and then hopefully we’ll have some clarity over that situation.

“I think by January we’ll have absolute clarity on that process,” he then said.

Decisions to make…

Both Brereton Diaz and Blackburn Rovers look as though they’ll have decisions to make depending on how these ongoing conversations pan out over the striker’s future.

If a deal goes unsigned before January, the former Nottingham Forest man will be free to negotiate pre-contract terms with clubs from abroad. Sides from these shores will still have to pay a fee though, giving Rovers a last chance to earn a cash influx.

In the event no agreement is struck over a departure in January, Brereton Diaz may well end up leaving for nothing in the summer – unless Blackburn Rovers can persuade him to sign a new deal that is.

That’s surely something everyone at Ewood Park will be hoping for, though it remains to be seen just what happens.
