Bolton Wanderers had a relatively uneventful transfer window, bringing in just a handful of fresh faces to bolster their ranks.
Despite the lack of real movement in the market, the Trotters still brought in proven League One talent Jack Iredale and promising youngster Eoin Toal.
Ian Evatt’s side have had a strong start to the campaign, currently sitting in a play-off position after winning their previous three league fixtures.
The January transfer window could be crucial in determining whether the Trotters will need to make drastic changes to their squad if they are going to contend for promotion.
Here we look at four players Bolton Wanderers should sell or loan out in January…
Luke Hutchinson – loan
The young shot-stopper is a product of Bolton Wanderers’ academy and could possibly become an important player for the club but is currently being utilised as a back-up option to James Trafford and Joel Dixon.
A loan move to a lower league club could prove to be crucial in Hutchinson’s development if he is going to eventually reach his potential.
Gerald Sithole – loan
The attacker joined the Trotters during the summer transfer window after an impressive spell with Gillingham.
Sithole is yet to make an appearance for the first-team, predominantly gaining minutes for the B team and looks unlikely to gain regular game-time anytime soon.
A loan move to a fellow League One side or League Two side competing for promotion could benefit the 19-year-old and make him a potential starter later down the line.
Will Aimson – sell
After joining from Plymouth Argyle in June 2021, Aimson was a solid option for the Greater Manchester club last season, making 25 league appearances last time out.
Despite this, the Englishman has featured sporadically so far this season with players such as Ricardo Santos and Gethin Jones being favoured over him.
Aimson is still a solid option in the third tier and a permanent move to a fellow League One club where he can gain regular football may be a suitable option for him.
Lloyd Isgrove – sell
The Welshman became a regular starter for Bolton Wanderers but has been plagued by injury recently, not being involved with the squad since last season after injuring himself in a B team fixture in March.
Isgrove recently made an appearance in the EFL Trophy against Tranmere Rovers but at 29-years-old the winger may find it difficult to become an important member of the squad again.
A move away from the club could possibly be on the cards with Bolton Wanderers already strengthening the squad in the final third.
