Cardiff City’s interest in former Arsenal and England star currently exiled at rival PL club confirmed

Cardiff City ‘have made an initial enquiry’ over Southampton’s Theo Walcott, WalesOnline have confirmed.

Walcott, 33, is currently playing with Southampton.

The former Arsenal and England wonder kid has amassed 539 professional career appearances over the past 17 years, having sealed a permanent return to the Saints last summer.

But the attacker has fallen out of favour under Ralph Hasenhuttl who’s yet to hand Walcott a Premier League appearance this season.

Then, The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath revealed that Cardiff have shown an interest, with WalesOnline now confirming that the Bluebirds have fielded an enquiry for the veteran.

Cardiff City have signed a horde of new players this summer, but manager Steve Morison has been in the market for a new striker of late, with WalesOnline saying that a new attacker is at the ‘top of Cardiff’s agenda’.

Walcott unlikely, but exciting…

Whilst Walcott seems like an unlikely move at this point, it can’t be ruled out entirely, and it should give Cardiff City fans something to mull over on what could be an exciting deadline day.

Walcott needs no introduction in football – he’s scored over 100 goals in his career, played on the highest stages in club and international football and has done so since a very young age.

His career has perhaps quietened down in the past few years, but it’s understandable given how he was thrust into the Premier League with Arsenal at age 16.

But he might have a final hurrah left in the locker and he could yet spend it in the Championship, with a team like Cardiff City who could do with an experience striker to head their front-line.

Again, it seems unlikely, but it could be one to watch out for today.
