Sheffield Wednesday have added youngsters Adam Alimi-Adetoro and Luke Cook to Neil Thompson’s U21s side, it has been confirmed.
Sheffield Wednesday have certainly made the most of the summer transfer window, bringing in a host of new first-team players. There’s still a good amount of time left too, with some more additions needed to put the finishing touches on Darren Moore’s squad.
However, the summer also provides the chance for clubs to freshen up their youth ranks.
The departures of some talents frees space for new blood to join the setup, and the Owls have now confirmed two further additions to Neil Thompson’s U21s side.
As announced on the club’s official website, defender Alimi-Adetoro and forward Cook have both been snapped up.
Sheffield Wednesday have been casting eyes over both young players on trial and now, they join ahead of the U21s’ new campaign, which kicks off against Swansea City’s youngsters on Monday.
The path to the first-team…
Admittedly, last season didn’t provide much opportunity for new youth players to break into Moore’s first-team side at Hillsborough.
Ciaran Brennan got a run in the side during the Owls’ defensive injury crisis but he’s headed out on loan to League Two side Swindon Town ahead of the new season.
The likes of Alex Hunt and Ryan Galvin have been around the side but given the options in their respective positions, loan exits could be best for their development ahead of the new season.
Alimi-Adetoro and Cook will be hoping that they can start to catch the eye of first-team staff with some strong performances for the U21s this season as they make the step up to League One level.
