Middlesbrough plotting move for Hull City ace

Middlesbrough are set to make another move for Hull City’s Jacob Greaves, as per Football Insider.

Greaves, 21, spent last season featuring heavily in the Championship for the Tigers.

Boro have been busy this window. Chris Wilder has seen a lot of talent leave the club, but the former Sheffield United boss has also brought a lot of quality to Teesside with names like Marcus Forss from Brentford joining the mix.

But it seems Wilder isn’t fully satisfied with his squad just yet. Names are continuing to be linked with the Riverside Stadium and with the window entering its final month time is running out to complete deals.

Boro had an initial approach for Greaves rejected earlier in the summer, but it now appears they’re being persistent and another move for the defender is on the cards.

Middlesbrough aren’t without competition as fellow promotion-hopefuls Watford are also reportedly interested, but Hull City are reluctant to let the young prospect leave.

A perfect fit…

Greaves played every minute of the Championship last season. The 21-year-old is a star for the Tigers and this means he won’t come cheap, but Boro have recouped a fair bit of money from outgoings this summer which could allow them to splash the cash on Greaves.

Greaves broke into senior football in 2019 and since he has gained experience in League Two all the way up to the second tier. The youngster certainly knows the demands of the Championship and a move to Boro would be a step forward in his career.

Wilder’s side drew in their opening outing, whilst Greaves played in Hull City’s marginal win over Bristol City, however despite this, Wilder’s side will be confident of securing promotion this year and that may be an environment that tempts Greaves up north.

The Tigers will happily play the long game in this saga and Boro will have to do a lot of work to pry Greaves away from his current surroundings.
