Doncaster Rovers facing competition from League Two rivals in pursuit of Rangers man

Doncaster Rovers are leading the race for Rangers’ Ross McCausland, but Rochdale are now reported to have entered the battle for his services.

Rangers youngster McCausland has been picking up game time with the club’s B team in the early stages of this season as he pushes to make a breakthrough into senior football.

Links with a loan move to League Two have circulated, with Doncaster Rovers said to be keen on striking a deal.

However, a new report from Football Insider has now claimed that Gary McSheffrey’s side are facing competition from one of their fourth-tier rivals in the pursuit of the Northern Irish talent.

It is said that Rochdale have entered the race to sign McCausland as Robbie Stockdale looks to bolster his options out wide.

Although the Dale have joined the battle, the report states that it is Doncaster Rovers who are leading the race to sign McCausland.

Another option out wide?

Stockdale often operates with a 3-4-3 or something similar, though he started with a 3-5-2 on the opening day against Crewe Alexandra.

Options out wide like Aidy White remained on the bench while he started with a strike partnership of Ian Henderson and Devante Rodney, but if he was to come in, McCausland would likely require a switch back to the 3-4-3.

He has spent much of his youth career playing as an attacking winger rather than a wing-back. It remains to be seen if he even ends up at Spotland, but he could be an exciting option for the Dale.

Doncaster Rovers are still leading the chase though, with a loan exit on the cards for the Rangers talent.
