Sheffield Wednesday’s updated stance on Birmingham City man Harlee Dean revealed

Sheffield Wednesday remain interested in signing Birmingham City defender Harlee Dean this summer, reports suggest.

Darren Moore’s side are adding to their ranks in numbers this summer and they don’t yet appear satisfied.

The Owls have already seen six new arrivals and supporters will be hoping Dean makes it seven.

The Blues defender is highly-experienced in both League One and the Championship.

Dean spent part of last season on loan with Moore’s side and they’re hoping to make the deal a permanent one.

The 30-year-old has one year left on his currently Birmingham City deal and this means it’s possible that a fee can be agreed upon if the Owls decide Dean is the man they want.

Dean fell out of favour with Lee Bowyer last season despite beginning the campaign as captain, making it all the more likely a deal may be reached this summer.

Wednesday fell at the last hurdle last season losing the play-off semi-finals to Sunderland. They’ll be hoping this time their fate is settled automatically.

Statement of intent…

Moore’s current arrivals include Michael Smith, Michael Ihiekwe and Will Vaulks, all of which either have Championship or promotion experience.

The Owls aren’t underestimating the competition next season.

The relegation of Derby County, Barnsley and Peterborough United only makes promotion harder to achieve next time round.

The season begins in less than a month, and starting on the front foot is important when aiming for promotion.

Momentum early on can help pull you away from the competition and put you in the driving seat, leading the way.

Moore must ensure he uses this time to add the final touches to his squad, to make sure they’re ready for the opening day against Portsmouth.
