MK Dons agree six-figure deal for 19-year-old talent

MK Dons have agreed a deal of €200,000 to sign St. Patrick’s Athletic talent Darragh Burns, the Irish Mirror has revealed.

MK Dons have wasted no time in preparing for the new season after their play-off heartbreak.

Ethan Robson, Nathan Holland, Conor Grant, Matthew Dennis and Jack Tucker have all completed moves to Stadium MK this summer, though star performers Harry Darling and Scott Twine have both made the step up to the Championship.

Now, as per the Irish Mirror, a sixth summer signing is close.

It is claimed that MK Dons have agreed a deal to sign 19-year-old talent Burns from Irish outfit St. Pat’s. The deal will reportedly cost the Dons €200,000 (around £173,000), with personal terms also agreed with the promising winger.

One to watch…

MK Dons are growing a good reputation for their smart business in the transfer market. This could prove to be another good buy as well.

Burns is only 19 and already has a good amount of senior experience to his name, playing 59 times for St. Pat’s across all competitions since making his way through the club’s youth academy. In the process, the right-winger has managed an impressive 11 goals and 13 assists.

He has been a regular at youth level for the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, representing the former at U17, U20 and U20 level while playing for the latter’s U17 and U18 sides.

Burns looks as though he has a bright future in the game, though stepping up from the Irish Premier Division to League One is a big jump to make.

Plenty have succeeded in making the step up in recent years and Ireland has proven to be a fruitful market for EFL clubs in recent years, so it will be hoped Burns can come over and impress.
