Luton Town are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Derby County youngster Louie Watson on a free transfer, reports Football Insider.
Watson, 21, has officially seen his Derby County contract expire, and he becomes a free agent along with a number of Rams players.
The youngster spent time with West Ham as a youngster but joined Derby County in 2020, featuring nine times in the 2020/21 Championship season and four times in the last.
Watson failed to really make an impact on the side, but Luton Town are set to hand him a Championship lifeline this summer with the Irishman seemingly closing in on a move to Kenilworth Road.
Football Insider report that the Hatters ‘are closing in on a deal for Watson and are hopeful of securing a full agreement soon’.
Luton Town claimed a top-six finish last season but were knocked out of the play-off semi-finals by Huddersfield Town.
Since, Nathan Jones has bolstered his side with three exciting signings in Matt Macey, Cauley Woodrow and Alfie Doughty, and Watson could soon become Luton’s fourth signing of the summer already.

Watson struggled to really get a look-in at Derby County. Last season was a difficult one though as Wayne Rooney’s side battled through administration and against relegation.
A few youngsters came into the starting side but Watson was left in the doldrums somewhat. He remains a player with potential though and he’ll surely be raring to get going at Luton Town and play some football next time round.
He’s a sprightly midfielder who would’ve had a good upbringing with West Ham, and if Jones can find a way to get the best out of the Irishman next season then he may well have a real prospect on his hands.
Luton Town are making some positive signings this summer but the race for top-six next season looks as difficult as ever, so how the Hatters will fair is anyone’s guess.
