Key update shared on Tottenham’s pursuit of Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence with final price tag revealed

Tottenham Hotspur are edging closer to finally securing a deal with Middlesbrough to bring Djed Spence to the Premier League, according to the Daily Mail.

Spence has always looked like leaving Boro this summer and it appears finally that deal will happen soon.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at promoted Nottingham Forest and he impressed several top-flight clubs. He appeared in 42 Championship games contributing to seven goals from right-back or right-midfield.

Spence fit into Steve Cooper’s system perfectly and Antonio Conte will be hoping to replicate Spence’s form this time around.

And Spence will need to be ready for a big step up as Spurs look to compete inside the country’s top four.

The Sun reported the fee to be in the region of £15million with add-ons and some would argue this is relatively cheap considering his age and potential, and Daily Mail now says the price will be between £15million and £16million.

Regardless, Chris Wilder’s Boro will be hoping to use the Spence money to improve elsewhere.

A blessing in disguise…

Of course Boro fans would have loved Spence to show his skills at the Riverside Stadium next season.

But that being said, they finished five points outside the top-six last time round and this money could help get them over the line.

Wilder has what it takes to get a team promoted. With the right recruitment, there is no reason why this year cannot be Middlesbrough’s.

Middlesbrough can be proud of the player Spence has become over the past four years and they can take a lot of credit for where he is now, and Wilder will surely be hoping that the money gained from his sale can be put to use in the transfer market this month.

Boro will need some new signings to ensure that they’re on their A-game as the Championship grows stronger with new additions from the top tier and League One.
