Burnley bid rejected for 15-goal striker – £1.5m off club’s valuation

Burnley have had a £3m bid rejected for Standard Liege forward Jackson Muleka, according to Turkish publication Milliyet.

Burnley are looking to use manager Vincent Kompany’s connections to secure signings this summer, with the Clarets already looking to the Belgian market.

Standard Liege striker Muleka was seen as surplus to requirements in the latter half of last season, joining Turkish side Kasimpasa on a short-term loan. But having impressed in the Super Lig, Burnley have added the DR Congo international to their shortlist.

They tabled a bid of £3m to Standard Liege, but the offer was ultimately turned down. The two sides are still £1.5m apart in terms of their valuation with the Belgian outfit holding out for £4.5m instead.

In 35 appearances, the forward found the net 15 times, whilst also assisting a further seven.

These goal involvements were across appearances for both his parent club in the Jupiler Pro League and out on loan at Kasimpasa.

What would he bring to Burnley?

According to HITC, the 22-year-old is ‘quick, skilful and two-footed’, and boasts ‘impressive link-play and vision’.

This would provide Kompany with a useful weapon up front, as well as something different to what is already at his disposal.

If Muleka was to join the Championship club, he would be competing with the likes of Ashley Barnes, Jay Rodriguez, and Matej Vydra.

Wout Weghorst remains at the club as things stand, but he is expected to depart in the coming weeks with a loan to Besiktas looking increasingly likely.

Should Burnley persist with a move for Muleka?

The Clarets are in need of a squad revamp, especially considering the amount of outgoings at Turf Moor already this window, and so a move for Muleka makes sense.

Barnes, Rodriguez and Vydra are solid Championship strikers, but are all over the age of 30 and so Muleka would give their forward line reinvigoration ahead of the new campaign.

Having signed Scott Twine and Luke McNally already this summer, it promises to be an exciting season for Burnley.
