What could July have in store for West Brom? New signings, players departing and new contract agreements discussed

West Brom‘s summer transfer window has been shrewd, but impressive so far.

Steve Bruce has managed to lure John Swift and Jed Wallace to West Brom so far this summer. They make for two really keen signings for the Baggies but Bruce and the fans will know that they need a few more to come through the door next month, if they’re to become top-six challengers next season.

There’s been a few players linked with a move to The Hawthorns this summer and a few tipped to leave, and here we look at what July could have in store for the Baggies.

Will West Brom sign any new players in July?

It’s highly likely that we’ll see a few players join up with Bruce at West Brom next month.

The Baggies boss recently said that he expects ‘three or four’ more players to sign this summer, and with the new season starting at the end of next month, those signings could well be made in July.

Tom Lawrence has been linked with the Baggies but Express and Star say that there’s nothing in those rumours.

Elsewhere, Newcastle United striker and former Baggie Dwight Gayle has been linked with a return to the club.

Express and Star revealed recently that Bruce is keen on signing a right-back, a central midfielder and a new striker, with Bruce himself revealing that he’s not in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer.

Will any players leave West Brom in July?

This is likely too. Bruce says that he expects ‘two or three’ to leave the club this summer, and one of those two or three is likely to be Cedric Kipre, who’s been tipped to leave the club this summer.

Elsewhere, there could be more defensive departures with Bruce having a fair few options in that department, with young goalkeeper Josh Griffiths being tipped to leave the club on loan.

Will there be any new player agreements?

The summer transfer window isn’t all about transfers. It’s also a time for club to secure new player deals and there’s a few key players who West Brom might look to tie down to new contracts.

Names like Jake Livermore and Dara O’Shea see their deals expire in 2023.

The Baggies have also lost a lot of talented youngsters in recent years, before they’ve even made their first-team debut for the club.

This could be an issue that the club looks to tackle during this rebuild and securing fresh terms for some of their younger players who they think have potential could be a smart move.

For West Brom then, July could be a busy month. Bruce recognised long before the summer that a rebuild was required and the signings of Swift and Wallace are a good start to that rebuild.

More is needed, but the signs are positive for West Brom.
