What could July have in store for QPR? New signings, players departing and new contract agreements discussed

QPR have a busy July ahead of them under new manager Michael Beale, with fans hopeful of seeing some new blood arrive at the club.

The 2022/23 Championship campaign will be a hugely difficult one for QPR, and for every team in the division for that matter.

Burnley, Norwich City and Watford are all returning to the second tier and they’ll add a lot of quality to an already impressive Championship roster, with Sunderland, Rotherham United and Wigan Athletic all making the step up from League One.

QPR under Beale though could surprise a few people. He’s a keen appointment and if his side can have a positive showing in the transfer market next month then they could easily become dark horses.

Here we look at what July might have in store for the R’s…

Will QPR make any new signings next month?

More than likely, yes. QPR have so far brought in Kenneth Paal and Jake Clarke-Salter this summer, and they’re two really keen signings but Beale will know he needs more to cope with the strains of a long-haul Championship campaign.

Beale and director of football Les Ferdinand revealed in Beale’s first press conference as QPR boss earlier this month that the club will continue to look for youngsters, bring them in and develop them in that Ebere Eze mould, but they also suggested that they won’t be shy in scouring the free and loan markets.

Don’t expect QPR to go and spend big this summer. But expect them to bring in some new faces next month, more likely on loan, especially after Beale hinted at using his previous Liverpool and Chelsea connections this summer.

Players set to leave?

Player contracts officially expire later this week. It will see players become free agents and so the transfer market should be in full swing next month.

It will also see the likes of Moses Odubajo, Lee Wallace and a few others officially depart the club.

As it stands, QPR don’t look to have any players that will attract interest from above.

Names like Seny Dieng and Rob Dickie had Premier League links last summer but Dieng spent the second half of the campaign on the sidelines, and Dickie struggled for form, so it seems like neither are going anywhere this summer.

And Ferdinand alluded to this in Beale’s presser earlier this month.

Will any players secure new deals?

QPR youngster Murphy Mahoney was handed a new contract yesterday. It could suggest that Beale will pay attention to player contracts this summer, particularly for the younger players, and so we could see one or two secure fresh terms.

Youngsters Conor Masterson and Faysal Bettache see their deals expire next summer, whilst Luke Amos also sees his contract expire – Amos could play a key role under Beale next season after impressing in the second half of the last campaign.

Meanwhile, Chris Willock sees his contract expire next summer, but the club have the option to extend his stay by a further year.

All in all then, QPR could be in for a busy July. With so many teams battling to sign the same players though, Beale will need to act fast – if he doesn’t, he could be left with a lot of work to do late on in the window.
