Sunderland are keen on Leeds United centre-back Charlie Cresswell, reporter James Marshment has revealed on Twitter.
Leeds United talent Cresswell made his first-team breakthrough for the Whites last season. Limited options at the heart of defence made him a regular in the matchday squads at Elland Road, notching up six appearances in the process.
Ahead of the new season though, he has been linked with a loan move away from the club. Millwall have been credited with interest, with Football Insider stating the Lions are in advanced talks over a loan deal.
Now, reporter Marshment has issued a fresh update.
Speaking on Twitter, the TEAMtalk editor stated that Millwall are indeed in talks over a temporary move for the Leeds United talent. However, they could face competition from Sunderland, with Alex Neil’s men also ‘hoping’ to sign the 19-year-old.
Charlie Cresswell is holding talks over a potential loan move to Millwall – but TEAMtalk understands that Sunderland are also hoping to land the Leeds United defender.

It remains to be seen if Sunderland‘s interest develops, but it certainly seems the battle for Cresswell is hotting up.
A Championship test awaits?
Cresswell is one of Leeds United’s most promising youngsters as it stands. He has notched up plenty of game time for the club’s U18s and U23s already though, and now that he has a taste of senior football, it would be a bit of a step back to return to youth football.
The Championship could be the perfect place for Cresswell to take the next step in his development.
He’s a future Leeds United starter in the making, but until then, it could be beneficial to get some more first-team football out on loan.
Both Sunderland and Millwall present good options, but it remains to be seen how the battle pans out.
