Millwall eyeing Leeds United starlet

According to reports, Championship side Millwall are set to make a move for Leeds United and England Under-21 defender Charlie Cresswell.

Millwall finished three places and six points outside the Championship play-offs places last season.

The Lions will be looking to roar next season and push for the top-six. They will also be looking to restructure ahead of that push.

Football Insider’s Wayne Veysey writes that Whites defender Cresswell is one of their targets.

Leeds United’s Cresswell into the Lions’ Den

Leeds United and Millwall have an on-pitch rivalry. That much has been obvious over the seasons they spent in the same division.

However, that hasn’t stopped the Lions asking for the 19-year-old Cresswell on loan, it appears.

Veysey writes that Gary Rowett’s Millwall outfit “are in advanced talks” to bring Cresswell to London and The Den.

Respected Leeds United journalist Graham Smyth confirms the Lions are interested in Cresswell:

However, Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Smyth does warn that Millwall are not alone in their interest in Cresswell.

Thoughts?

Cresswell has come up through the age groups at Elland Road. The 19-year-old has quickly risen to the fringes of the first-team squad.

As well as two first-team appearances for the Whites in the Carabao Cup and Papa John’s Trophy, he has five Premier League appearances to his name.

Millwall will need some solidity at the back and Cresswell would provide that.

Ignore his tender years, Cresswell is a no-nonsense defender who isn’t afraid to put himself about and put in a shift.

His positioning, coupled with his aggressive style would make him an instant favourite at Millwall.

The advanced talks that the Lions are in should definitely be pushed to a conclusion. He’d be a great loan acquisition for the Londoners.
