Presenting the inside scoop on the latest Football League news

Millwall and Watford battling to sign promising striker, seven-figure price tag mentioned

Millwall and Watford ‘are set to rekindle’ their interest in Kortrijk striker Pape Habib Gueye this summer, reports Football Insider.

Gueye, 22, helped fire Kortrijk to a 13th place finish in the Belgian top flight last season.

The striker scored five goals in 16 league appearances and was subject to transfer from both Watford and Millwall in the last January transfer window.

Now though, Football Insider claims that both clubs are set to rekindle their interest in the young forward this summer, with his club currently valuing him at £2million – a fee which Football Insider says is ‘affordable’ for both Millwall and Watford.

Football Insider also goes on to reveal that Millwall recently sent scouts to watch Gueye in a pre-season friendly – a 3-1 win over KV Mechelen, with Gueye grabbing two of those goals.

Ready to battle…

Both Millwall and Watford could be dark horses in the Championship next season.

Watford have obvious quality having spent last season in the Premier League whilst Millwall look to be giving it a real go this summer, ahead of their fourth campaign under Gary Rowett.

The Lions have already broken their transfer record to bring in Zian Flemming and Rowett previously revealed that his side have another record bid on the table, which could yet be for Gueye.

Watford meanwhile could have money to spend if they sell one of their key players this summer, and they have a track record for signing players from Europe too, so a move for Gueye makes sense.

Both Emmanuel Dennis and Ismaila Sarr have been linked with West Ham this summer and Gueye could be a like-for-like replacement for either of those.

Gueye looks like a promising player and we could yet see him playing in the Championship next season.
