Barry Fry reveals Peterborough United man ‘wants’ to join League Two club this summer

Peterborough United goalkeeper Christy Pym is keen to join League Two side Mansfield Town this summer, director of football Barry Fry has said.

Peterborough United confirmed on their retained list earlier this summer that shot-stopper Pym had been made available for transfer.

The 27-year-old is way down the pecking order at London Road. It stemmed from a falling out with then-manager Darren Ferguson back in September and he hasn’t been involved since, heading to League Two side Stevenage on loan in January.

Now, Posh’s director of football Fry has issued an update on Pym’s situation.

Speaking with the Peterborough Telegraph, Fry stated that the ‘keeper is subject of interest from four clubs, one being Mansfield Town.

It’s the Stags that Pym is keen to join too, though he states that Mansfield Town are yet to make an offer that ‘suits’ the League One side. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

“Mansfield want Christy and he has spoken to them along with three others clubs.

“He wants to go there, but Mansfield have yet to come up with an offer that suits us.

“Their manager Nigel Clough is due back from holiday this week so things might move on then.”

The right move for all…

After falling way down the ranks at London Road, it makes sense for Pym to move on this summer.

Peterborough United will still land a fee for the Exeter-born shot-stopper and with Lucas Bergstrom and Harvey Cartwright both on the books along with Will Blackmore, Pym is surplus to requirements now.

He has already shown he can be a valuable player at League One and League Two level. He was important in Posh’s promotion-winning 2020/21 campaign and he kept 43 clean sheets in 166 outings during his time with Exeter City.

It remains to be seen just who is rivalling Mansfield Town for a deal, but Pym is keen on linking up with Clough’s side.
