Millwall transfer news, Rowett says there’s ‘a lot’ of interest in young Millwall duo

Rowett says there’s ‘a lot’ of interest in young Millwall duo

Millwall boss Gary Rowett has revealed that there’s interest in young Lions duo Isaac Olaofe and Alex Mitchell ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Millwall have some talented youngster on their books. Names like Billy Mitchell have progressed through the ranks and into the first-team under Rowett, and the likes of Olaofe and Alex Mitchell will surely be hoping to achieve the same.

Olaofe, 22, has spent time out on loan with Sutton United over the past two seasons. He helped fire them to promotion to the Football League in 2021 and helped keep them in the Football League last time round, scoring eight goals in 27 League Two outings for the club.

Mitchell, 19, meanwhile spent time on loan with Leyton Orient in League Two last season, featuring 26 times in the league and proving to be a solid defender in the process.

And speaking to London News Online, Lions boss Rowett has revealed that there’s been interest in the pair ahead of the new campaign, saying:

“We’ve had a lot of loan interest in the likes of Isaac and Alex Mitchell. The plan is, as we spoke about previously, give them the best possible chance pre-season to stake their claim in the squad this year and then we’ll make a decision, maybe a few weeks into pre-season, as to where we think they are.”

On the up…

Rowett has really given Millwall some solid foundations for the future. In three seasons at the club he’s delivered steady Championship finishes, all while bringing about some really decent young players and building a squad capable of challenging for the top-six.

The likes of Olaofe and Mitchell look set to be given their chance in pre-season and they could yet impress Rowett enough to earn a place in the Lions’ first-team going into the next season.

If not, then the pair will have no shortage of loan options and if they can put in another good shift out on loan, then they might be ready for a place in Rowett’s Millwall plans.

Things are really looking up for Millwall ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
