Middlesbrough defensive pair told to find new clubs this summer

Middlesbrough are expected to part company with defenders Grant Hall and Hayden Coulson this summer, according to The Northern Echo.

Middlesbrough have already brought in two defensive players this transfer window with centre-back Darragh Lenihan arriving on a free from Blackburn Rovers and left-sided player Ryan Giles signing on loan from Wolves.

This means one centre-back and one left-back could be on the chopping block, and this is backed up by the report from The Northern Echo.

Journalist Scott Wilson writes that Grant Hall and Hayden Coulson have both been told that their future lies away from the Riverside and that the Teessiders will look to sell the pair this summer.

Hall signed for Boro in July 2020 and has made 28 appearances for the club, scoring two goals in that time. The 30-year-old was a regular starter under Neil Warnock but he did not play a single minute from when Chris Wilder took over in November.

He was often left out of the matchday squad entirely, only making the bench five times in Wilder’s 32 games in charge.

Coulson was seen as surplus to requirements last summer. He was sent out on loan to League One side Ipswich Town in the first half of the campaign but made just six appearances before being recalled by Middlesbrough. He spent the second half of the season at fellow Championship side Peterborough United.

The duo will leave Boro in the coming weeks along with strikers Uche Ikpeazu and Chuba Akpom. The article also states that there are question marks around left-back Marc Bola and attacking midfielder Martin Payero, with the latter linked to a move back to Argentina this week.
