Cardiff City, Hearts eyeing up 13-goal/assist talent

Cardiff City and Hearts have both been credited with interest in Fleetwood Town’s 21-year-old Northern Irish talent Paddy Lane.

Cardiff City have wasted no time in freshening up their ranks this summer.

Steve Morison made no bones about his desire to revamp the playing squad in South Wales and nine players have already made their way through the doors at the Cardiff City Stadium. Now, another man has emerged as a target for the Bluebirds.

As per Football Scotland, Morison’s men are one of two sides keen on Fleetwood Town’s versatile talent Lane.

Citing the Mirror, it is also said that Hearts have been keeping a close eye on the 21-year-old as Jambos boss Robbie Neilson looks to bring some fresh blood into his squad at Tynecastle before embarking on the 2022/23 campaign.

One to watch?

Cardiff City haven’t been afraid to dip into League One and League Two before and it wouldn’t be a surprise to do so again.

Ebou Adams has already arrived from Forest Green Rovers while Ollie Tanner has signed from non-league club Lewes, showing that Morison is willing to dip into lower leagues for talented players despite most of his summer signings coming from Championship rivals.

Lane could certainly be a player to keep an eye on in the years to come and he could be a worthwhile signing for a Championship club.

In his first season of senior football, Lane managed five goals and eight assists in 37 League One games last time around. He featured in a wide range of roles too, operating on either wing or through the middle as an attacking midfielder or central midfielder at times.

He also has three Northern Ireland caps to his name, for whom he has played at left-back.

As a versatile prospect, Cardiff City would be wise to pursue a deal for Lane this summer.
