Blackburn Rovers could be in store for a so-called ‘transitional’ season next time round under Jon Dahl Tomasson.
The former Newcastle United striker was appointed as Blackburn Rovers’ new manager earlier this month and already, he has plenty of work to do.
This summer was always going to be a difficult one for the club given the amount of key players they had out of contract.
But there’s also some contracted players attracting interest from elsewhere – the main one being Ben Brereton Diaz.
Brereton Diaz has been linked with a move away from Ewood Park for several month now. But interest in the Chilean has seemingly picked up this week with reports claiming that the striker has emerging interest from Eintracht Frankfurt, Lyon and Serie A side Salernitana.
And it’s Salernitana who are said to be in advanced talks to sign Brereton Diaz, in what would certainly be something of a surprise signing.

Another key Rovers man is Tyrhys Dolan, and he too has suitors this summer.
The England U20 international featured 34 times in the Championship last season, scoring four goals and assisting three to assert himself as one of the brightest youngsters in the Football League.
And last week, reports surfaced claiming that Dolan has interest from both Celtic and Rangers, and Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest.
Speaking after the 2-0 win over Millwall back in March, ex-Rovers boss Tony Mowbray said of Dolan:
“I don’t generally give special mention to players but I thought he deserved one. I thought he was like a whirlwind.
“I played centre-half and to think that lad would be chasing you down every time you had a touch, he was right in your face, it was such an amazing performance from such a young guy.”
Lastly, another Rovers man being linked with a move away ahead of July is Daniel Ayala.
The Spaniard played a back-up role last season with but Darragh Lenihan having joined Middlesbrough, and Jan Paul van Hecke having returned to Brighton, Ayala is one of Rovers’ few centre-back options.
Reports coming out of Spain (via Lancashire Telegraph) earlier this month suggested that Granada boss Aitor Karanka fancied a reunion with former Middlesbrough man Ayala this summer.
For Tomasson then, this summer could be a testing one, and if he can’t make any keen signings then his side may well struggle next time round.
Time is quickly running out for clubs in the Football League to do their transfer business and so Rovers fans will be hopeful that a few new faces can come through the door, and that some key ones will remain at the club.
