Update shared on Ross Stewart’s Sunderland situation amid ongoing Rangers interest

Rangers continue to track Sunderland striker Ross Stewart, with the Black Cats still hoping to secure fresh terms with the striker, as per Daily Record.

Stewart, 25, scored an incredible 26 goals in a total of 49 League One outings for Sunderland last season.

He scored some hugely important goals along the Black Cats’ way to promotion including one in the play-off final against Wycombe Wanderers.

Since, Stewart has been linked with a number of clubs but Rangers have been linked the most.

And now a fresh report from Daily Record has revealed that Rangers are still tracking Stewart going into this summer, with the striker also having interest from a ‘litany’ of English club.

Reports throughout this summer have revealed that Sunderland are keen to extend Stewart’s stay at the Stadium of Light and Daily Record has reiterated that, saying that the club are ready to offer Stewart more money in a bid to fend off transfer interest.

The same report also reveals that Stewart received an automatic pay-rise following the club’s promotion to the Championship.

Stewart’s Sunderland future…

Stewart has little over one year remaining on his Sunderland contract but the Black Cats have the option of extending his stay by a further year.

It’s a difficult situation for the club to be in and Rangers may look to take advantage of this situation by courting Stewart ahead of next summer, at which point Sunderland might be more inclined to sell.

But a transfer this summer can’t be ruled out and if Stewart does leave later in this window then it would be a huge blow for Alex Neil and his side, and they’d no doubt have to dip into the transfer market to replace his goals ahead of their Championship return.

If the club can extend Stewart’s stay then it would be a great move for the Black Cats.
