Millwall are set to make Hull City’s George Honeyman their second signing of the summer, reports South London Press.
Honeyman, 27, is set to undergo a medical with Millwall this morning.
The Hull City man featured 35 times in the Championship last season, scoring five times and assisting four and once again proving to be a favourite among Tigers fans.
Millwall have got the ball rolling this summer after completing a club record signing of Zian Flemming for £1.7million over the weekend, and South London Press say that Honeyman is set to become their next acquisition and that, ‘barring any complications’, he will join the Lions in Ireland for their pre-season training camp.
Gary Rowett guided his side to a 9th place finish in the Championship last season. Millwall were in with a chance of securing a top-six finish going into their final game of the season v Bournemouth, but it wasn’t to be.
Going into what is Rowett’s fourth season at the helm, and backed by the signing of Flemming, and hopefully Honeyman and more, fans will be hopeful that their club can finally push for promotion.
Honeyman is a hugely versatile and useful player. He played in a more attacking role for Hull City last season but he can easily be deployed as more of a box-to-box player, given his tenacity and work-rate on the pitch.
For Rowett, Honeyman will give Millwall a really useful option in the midfield going into the new season and he’ll also give the side a bit more creativity, with the Lions having only scored 53 goals in their 46 Championship outings last season.
Overall it seems like a strong signing for Millwall and Rowett, but a couple more signings are needed for them to be able to really compete next season.
