Latest Middlesbrough news: Wilder wants departing Sheffield United man, Boro linked with PL striker + more

Middlesbrough continue to be involved in headlines as we delve further into the summer transfer window, with Chris Wilder’s side being linked with some exciting potential signings.

One name being linked with a move to Middlesbrough is Karl Darlow. The Newcastle United shot-stopper looks to be out-of-favour at St James’ Park and Boro have been linked for a number of weeks.

But speaking to GiveMeSport recently, Keith Downie says that Newcastle may opt to keep Darlow at the club beyond this summer.

Elsewhere, The Sun reckon that Wilder is set to bring departing Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick to the Riverside this summer, and The Sun also claims that Middlesbrough are battling Watford for the loan signing of Southampton striker Adam Armstrong.

And Boro are said to be among a number of clubs keen on signing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite on loan this summer (Daily Mail, print edition 25.06.22).

But one name who might be leaving Middlesbrough his summer is Martin Payero.

GOAL has claimed that the forward is set to join Boca Juniors on an 18-month loan deal with a view to making the loan permanent.

But Payero has rubbished these rumours, saying in an interview with South American press (via GazetteLive):

“The truth is that they haven’t talked to me, no, they haven’t communicated.”

Lastly, Wilder has spoken out on Djed Spence’s ongoing Tottenham Hotspur links. The right wing-back is expected to complete a move to the north London side this summer, but that move is yet to materialise.

Wilder said of Spence’s situation:

“If nothing happens with Djed, then he’s our player and he’ll be back for pre-season.

“If the deal doesn’t get done, we’ll see where we go from there. Have I got an input into it? Yeah, 100 per cent. The boy obviously doesn’t want to come back here, which I’ve got absolutely no issue with. He obviously sees his future away from here, and he had a brilliant season last season.

“We’re expecting that deal to happen, but if it doesn’t, then he’s our player. From a club point of view, the deal has to be right.”

Middlesbrough certainly have a few irons in the fire but this ongoing saga with Spence may prevent them doing all the summer business they hope to do, so Wilder will surely be keen to push that move through sooner rather than later.
