Gary Rowett makes exciting statement over ‘one or two’ potential new Millwall signings

Millwall boss Gary Rowett has said ‘one or two’ more new signings are ‘very close’ to arriving at The Den as their productive summer kicks into action.

Millwall’s 2021/22 campaign saw them narrowly miss out on the play-offs, but it seems to have provided the foundation for an exciting season ahead.

The Lions may have lost Jed Wallace, but the signing of Zian Flemming looks to be an astute addition. More new additions don’t look far away either, with George Honeyman heading for South London and manager Rowett stating more are to follow after Flemming’s arrival.

Speaking with the South London Press, Rowett has said ‘one or two’ signings are on the verge of completion.

He went on to state he hopes more will follow shortly after, revealing his squad should be nearing it’s final form over the next seven to 10 days. Here’s what the Millwall boss had to say on the matter:

“We’ve got other players, different types of fits and characteristics, but we’re very close to bringing one or two more in… and a couple won’t be far behind that as well.

“We spoke about increasing our numbers, we are low on numbers, but it’s not about filling the numbers – it’s about bringing the right players in and we’re working very, very hard to do that.

“I’m excited for the next seven to 10 days because I’d like to think our squad won’t be a million miles away by that time.”

Exciting times…

With Rowett’s summer revamp kicking into action, Millwall fans will be excited to see what the coming weeks have to offer.

The Lions took their play-off fight down to the final day last season, achieving far more than many would have thought they were capable of at the start of the campaign.

Bringing in new players should only strengthen them further too. An ambitious summer of recruitment could stand the Lions in good contention for another top-six push next season, so it will be hoped they can avoid obstacles and secure deals for their identified targets.

With Flemming already through the door, it seems as though some more fresh faces are set to follow him to The Den soon.
