Liverpool’s departing forward Ben Woodburn has joined Preston North End on a two-week trial, the Daily Mail has reported.
Preston North End have already been active in the summer transfer window.
Ryan Lowe is looking to freshen up his ranks ahead of the new season and goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has already made the move to Deepdale. He arrived from Newcastle United on a permanent basis earlier this month and now, it has emerged the Lilywhites are casting their eyes over another possible addition.
According to the Daily Mail, Preston have handed a trial to soon-to-be free agent forward Woodburn.
Premier League giants Liverpool confirmed the 22-year-old would be moving on when his contract expires at the end of the month.
Now, in a bid to keep his fitness up, Woodburn has linked up with Championship side Preston, where he will also be looking to impress Lowe in his search to find a new club.
Woodburn burst onto the scene with Liverpool after impressing for the club’s U23s and became their youngest ever first-team goalscorer in 2016, scoring against Leeds United in the League Cup at just 17.
However, since then, he hasn’t hit the heights the Anfield faithful would have hoped.
He played 11 times for Liverpool’s senior side and spent time out on loan with Hearts, Blackpool, Oxford United and Sheffield United. Woodburn’s time at the Kassam Stadium was the most successful of the four, netting once and providing five assists in 16 games.
A new start beckons now though. At only 22, the Welshman still has time to maximise his potential and enjoy a successful career.
His focus will be impressing with Preston for now though as he looks to land a new club before the new campaign.
