Colchester United, Barrow keen on 13-goal midfielder as contract nears expiry

Colchester United and Barrow are among the sides interested in Woking’s departing midfielder Max Kretzschmar, it has been claimed.

Both Colchester United and Barrow will be hoping they can start to look up the League Two table.

Col U’s encouraging end to the season will have given some hope after another challenging campaign, while the Bluebirds will be keen to make strides up the division under the management of Pete Wild.

New signings will be needed if both clubs are to do that, and it has now been said both are keen on out of contract ace Kretzschmar.

Sky Sports (Transfer Centre Live, 26.06.22, 19:39) have reported that both Colchester United and Barrow are interested in the central midfielder. He will be available for nothing this summer after Woking confirmed he would not be signing a new deal. As a result, he is free to negotiate terms with new clubs as a free agent.

The 27-year-old is heading for pastures new and he has interest from League Two and the National League.

Ready to return?

Kretzschmar already has a good amount of EFL experience to his name. He came through the ranks at Wycombe Wanderers and played 85 times for the Chairboys, netting nine times and laying on five assists.

Since leaving Adams Park in 2016, the midfielder spent a spell with Hampton and Richmond either side of two stints at Woking.

The second stint with the Cardinals has been a big success. He managed 26 goals in 114 appearances, with 13 of those strikes coming in the 2021/22 season.

Now, with links with a move back to the EFL emerging, it remains to be seen if Kretzschmar makes the return.
