Barnsley are said to be eyeing up a move for FC Vizela left-back Kiki Afonso as Michael Duff sets his sights on new additions at Oakwell.
Barnsley’s new boss Michael Duff will be determined to make his mark at Oakwell this summer after making the switch from Cheltenham Town.
The Tykes have wasted no times in bringing some fresh faces through the door. Defenders Conor McCarthy and Robbie Cundy have joined, as have youngsters Jamie Searle and Luca Connell – all four arriving on free transfers too.
Now, as per the Daily Mail, Barnsley have their eyes on a new left-back.
It is claimed that Portuguese left-back Kiki is a target for Duff and co as he revamps the Tykes’ defensive ranks.
Currently playing for FC Vizela, it is said that Kiki would be interested in making the move to the League One side. A switch would see him play in England for the second time in his career having spent a short stint with Dagenham and Redbridge back in 2013.
More on Kiki…
The Esposende-born ace has had his fair share of clubs over time, most of which have been based in Portugal.
He mainly operates as a left-back though has filled in at centre-back previously, showing that he could provide Duff with some helpful tactical versatility if a move to Barnsley was to materialise.
At 27, the former Portuguese youth international has a solid amount of first-team football under his belt. Although a left-field link, Kiki could prove to be an intriguing option for the Tykes as they prepare for the new campaign and kick on the next era under Duff’s management.
