Arsenal man’s proposed transfer to Championship side falls through, terms couldn’t be agreed

Dan Ballard’s proposed transfer from Arsenal to Burnley has fallen through, reports The Athletic.

Ballard, 22, was poised to leave Arsenal and join Burnley on a permanent deal, with a £2million fee having been reported.

And the defender was in Burnley for a medical ahead of his move to Turf Moor, but The Athletic has now revealed that the move has fallen through because Ballard and Burnley couldn’t agree terms.

Last season, Ballard spent time on loan with Millwall, featuring 31 times in the Championship and proving to be an exciting young prospect.

Going into this summer, he’d been linked with a number of teams, including Sheffield United and QPR.

But it remains to be seen whether or not the likes of Sheffield United or QPR will cough up £2million to bring in Ballard this summer, with another loan move now looking like a possibility.

Millwall boss Gary Rowett has also stated that he’d like to bring Ballard back to The Den on a permanent basis this summer.

A blow for Burnley…

Ballard would’ve been a great signing for Burnley. He’s a real prospect and a versatile defender, and he surely would’ve blossomed under the guidance of new Burnley boss Vincent Kompany.

Why this move has fallen through, specifically, remains to be seen, but it’s certainly a blow for both Burnley and Ballard with the player now potentially facing another loan move.

It’s hard to see another Championship wiling to spend £2million on a permanent deal for Ballard as it would be a club record fee for a lot of sides in the Championship.

Another loan move may not be what Ballard wants but if he does head out on loan, it’s another chance to put himself in the shop window ahead of next summer.
