According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Sheffield United are looking to make a swoop for Bosnian defender Anel Ahmedhodzic.
Nixon says that the Blades ‘have the cash to splash’ and are looking to make a £3 million move for the 23-year-old Malmo man.
However, he warns that they are not alone in having an interest in the centre-back.
Nixon adds that Blackburn Rovers – managed by Jon Dahl Tomasson – are also interested in him. Ahmedhodzic played under Tomasson when the latter was in charge at Malmo.
Ahmedhodzic, who was once on the books at Nottingham Forest, made 81 appearances for Malmo whilst Tomasson was in charge. However, that link could count for nothing should Sheffield United firm up their interest in the defender and make a move to snap him up this summer.
Ahmedhodzic has just spent a half-season on loan at French club Bordeaux where he made 15 Ligue 1 appearances.
Can he cut it with the Blades?
Sheffield United fell at the first play-off hurdle last season, losing out on penalties to Nottingham Forest.
Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom will want more of the same next season – another push for promotion.
They could do a lot worse than make a £3 million move for Ahmedhodzic.
He has 83 top-tier appearances to his name across three different leagues. On top of this, he also has Europe and Champions League experience.
Add in 18 caps for Bosnia-Herzegovina and you can begin to see why the 23-year-old is a figure of interest for Sheffield United.
If they have the cash to splash, then splashing it on Ahmedhodzic could be a sensible move as Heckingbottom embarks on his first summer transfer window in charge at Bramall Lane.
