Departing Ipswich Town ace in discussions over Bristol Rovers move

Ipswich Town’s departing striker James Norwood is in advanced talks over a move to Bristol Rovers, Football Insider has reported.

Bristol Rovers are gearing up for life back in League One after earning a dramatic final-day promotion in the 2021/22 campaign.

Joey Barton will be determined to add some fresh faces to his ranks, and it has now emerged that one player on his radar is striker Norwood.

Football Insider states that the Gas and the 31-year-old forward are in advanced talks. The Eastbourne-born ace is out of contract at Ipswich Town this summer and will be available on a free transfer, presenting clubs with the chance to snap him up in a shrewd deal.

It seems Bristol Rovers are the side at the front of the chase to secure Norwood’s services as a new chapter awaits following his Portman Road departure.

A smart pickup?

Ultimately, Norwood’s time at Portman Road will be viewed as underwhelming given the excitement around his signing.

He fell out of favour at times but despite not really living up to expectations, the striker still managed a decent total of 28 goals and nine assists in 88 outings. The striker proved his pedigree at League One level with a run of four goals in as many games last season, netting in games against top sides Wigan Athletic, Sunderland and Wycombe Wanderers.

Norwood has proven he can be a danger at this level if given the chance, so as a free agent, he could prove to be a really clever bit of business for Bristol Rovers.

With advanced talks underway, Barton will be hoping to get a deal tied up for Norwood before embarking on third-tier football again.
