Birmingham City facing European competition in pursuit of Norwich City winger

Birmingham City have been joined by Greek side AEK Athens in the race to sign Norwich City’s Przemyslaw Placheta, it has been reported.

Norwich City brought Polish winger Placheta to Carrow Road in the summer of 2020.

Since then, the 24-year-old has seen limited action for the Canaries. He has featured 42 times for the club across all competitions, with 12 of those outings coming in the season just concluded. In the process, Placheta has chipped in with one goal and three assists.

Ahead of the new campaign, Championship side Birmingham City have been credited with interest in Placheta.

But now, it has emerged that the Blues are facing rival interest from AEK Athens. Polish news outlet Meczyki states the Greek outfit are among those keen on Placheta, with either a permanent or loan exit on the cards for the Lowicz-born Norwich City ace this summer.

Time to move on?

Placheta still has two years remaining on his Norwich City contract, but if he doesn’t figure in Dean Smith’s plans moving forward, an exit ahead of the new season could be for the best.

He arrived as a promising talent and is still young enough to maximise his potential. Placheta has the pace to be a nuisance at any level but needs to add an end product to his game.

However, if he isn’t going to be played regularly at Carrow Road, the Canaries may be best cashing in on the Polish winger while they can.

From the player’s perspective too, another season of sparse game time won’t do his development any good, so a summer switch could be for the best.
